Corporate Photos vs. Stock Photography and AI: Why Authentic Images Always Win

“Can’t we just download a few photos from a stock library?” This question comes up surprisingly often when planning a corporate website. And lately, there’s a new trend: “We’ll just generate them with AI.”

Both options look like savings. In reality, they cost the company far more than it thinks.

A Real-World Story: Momentum Clinic

Momentum Clinic is a premium clinic in the center of Brno. When they launched their website, all the photos were AI-generated. And it was quite obvious.

For such a new business, I thought this was a rather unfortunate decision. Newly established companies need to be trustworthy. And trust is hard to build — even harder when your website features images that are obviously not real.

We completely re-shot all the photos. Real images of the spaces and team made it onto the website, as well as into their campaigns. The results have been significantly better.

Why Stock Photos Don’t Work

People Recognize Them

You can spot a stock photo from a mile away. Generic expressions, unrealistic situations, smiling people in perfect offices that only exist in a stock photography studio.

They Lack Context

A stock photo doesn’t show your company, your people, or your spaces. It shows a generic business. And in an era when authenticity is key in marketing, that’s a problem.

Your Competitors Have the Same Ones

When you buy a photo from iStock, there’s a real chance your competitor has the same one on their website. That’s certainly not how you stand out.

They Don’t Tell a Story

Real photos show company culture, the team, the environment. They say: “This is what it’s like here, this is how we work, this is our team.” Stock photos say: “We didn’t want to invest in photography.”

Why AI Images Are Even Worse

AI-generated images come with additional problems:

  • They’re recognizable — and more and more people are noticing
  • They undermine trust — if a company “saves” on photos, where else are they cutting corners?
  • There’s no legal certainty — copyright for AI images is still in a gray area
  • They don’t reflect reality — a customer walks in and sees something different from what was on the website

What Real Photos Deliver

In contrast, here’s what professional photography gives a company:

  • Credibility — real people, real spaces
  • Differentiation — nobody has the same photos as you
  • Consistency — a unified visual style across all channels
  • Long-term value — photos serve you for years on your website, social media, and in print
  • Story — every photo says something about your company

What It Really Costs

When you add up the cost of:

  • Stock photo licenses for an entire website
  • Time spent searching for “the right” stock photos
  • The risk of losing customer trust
  • Visual compromises and half-measures

…you’ll find that professional photography is actually the cheaper option.

Complete content for your website and social media can be produced for an investment in the tens of thousands of CZK. A one-day shoot that gives you material for months ahead. That’s an investment that pays for itself. Specific numbers are covered in my article about business photography pricing.

I describe more visual mistakes that hurt businesses in my article about 7 visual mistakes on corporate websites. And if you want to know more about pricing, check out the business photography pricing overview.
