7 Visual Mistakes on Corporate Websites That Are Costing You Customers
Companies invest hundreds of thousands into new websites. Design, development, copywriting — the budget is there for all of that. But when it comes to photos, suddenly everyone’s cutting costs. And yet the visuals are the very first thing a visitor looks at.
Here are seven mistakes I see on corporate websites most often.
1. Stock Photos Instead of Real Photography
Generic expressions, unrealistic situations, skyscrapers in the background for a company based in Brno — stock photos give themselves away. People today are attuned to authenticity and can tell what’s real and what’s not.
Real photos of your team, your spaces, and your work build trust. Stock photos undermine it. I write more about why authentic photos always win in a separate article.
2. AI-Generated Images
This is a relatively new problem, but I’m seeing it more and more. Companies are replacing photographs with AI-generated images, and it’s quite noticeable.
A specific case where a clinic replaced AI photos with real ones is described in my article about corporate photos vs. stock photography. When a company is still building its reputation, it can’t afford to have website visitors doubting what they see.
3. Inconsistent Visual Style
Every employee has a profile photo from a different shoot. Different backgrounds, different lighting, different styles. Interior photos are a mix of phone shots and camera shots. Product images look like they were taken by a different person each time.
Consistency is the foundation of a professional impression. When the visual style is unified, the website feels like a cohesive whole. When it’s not, it feels like a collage.
4. Outdated Portraits
Employee photos from 2018 on a website in 2026. People change, and when a potential client comes to a meeting and doesn’t recognize the person from the photos, that’s not a great start.
I recommend updating business portraits at least once every two years. Or whenever there’s a significant change in the team.
5. No Team Photos
Surprisingly, many companies have no photos of their people on their website. Yet in the B2B segment, where deals are closed based on relationships, this is crucial.
People want to know who they’ll be working with. Team photos build trust and show that there are real people behind the company, not an anonymous corporation.
6. Poor-Quality Space Photography
Office photos taken on a phone, in bad lighting, with clutter on the desk. Or even worse — no photos of the space at all.
Your workspace says a lot about who you are. If you have beautiful offices but it’s not visible on your website, you’re missing a powerful communication tool. And even if your space isn’t the most impressive, the right photography can turn an ordinary room into a professional shot.
7. No Video
In 2026, video is standard. Not a luxury — standard. A short brand film on the homepage, customer testimonials, team introductions — all of these significantly boost engagement and conversions.
And professional corporate video doesn’t have to cost a fortune. A one-day shoot and a short brand film is an investment in the tens of thousands of CZK. I go into detail in my article about corporate video on a budget.
What to Do About It
Most of these mistakes can be solved with one quality photo shoot. In one to two days, you can create a complete set:
- Business portraits of the entire team
- Lifestyle photos from the work environment
- Interior and exterior photography
- Product shots
And if you plan it smartly, you’ll end up with content for your website and social media for a long time.
